ExperienceI have been counselling since 1996 and since that time I have gained tremendous experience in the range of issues that I have encountered as well as counselling clients of varying ages from sixteen to ninety years old.
I have worked as a volunteer bereavement counsellor for approximately five years. In addition I was a volunteer counsellor for the mental health organisation MIND for nearly eight and a half years. The counselling undertaken for MIND was all short term work and thus I have accumulated a lot of experience in brief solution focused therapy.
I have an interest in working with clients who have relationship difficulties be it stresses and tensions within a relationship or the ending of a relationship.
Personal ApproachMy approach to counselling is Humanistic and I use the Person Centred Approach as my theoretical base. My approach is also very much based on the therapeutic relationship as I believe that it is the quality of the relationship between the client and the counsellor that determines a positive outcome for the client.
A good relationship is built on trust, mutual respect, a good rapport and honesty and integrity and my goal is to bring all these qualities into my work with my clients.
I aim to work with my clients towards a mutually defined goal where both the counsellor and the client are equal and active participants in the therapeutic relationship.
